ANNOUNCEMENT: RainbowCon 3 will take place May 10th-12th, 2019, at the Rainbow's North End on Whidbey Island.
Our guests will be Jen Carlson Midkiff and Tim Griffin; our toastpeople (toasts? toastmasters?) will be Joshua Kronengold and Lisa Padol. There will be dancing.
After we sold the original Rainbow's End in Seattle, we've moved the household lock, stock, and kittycats to Freeland, on Whidbey Island. South Whidbey is a popular tourist destination, artists' colony, and farming community; Freeland was originally a socialist commune in the early 1900s.
Despite its comparatively remote location (the best route from Seattle is via the ferry from Mukilteo; there's a bridge at Deception Pass on the North end), Whidbey is easy to get to; it's a 90 minute drive from Seattle, and there's a regular shuttle from the Seattle/Tacoma airport. If you prefer public transit, the ferry dock is only an hour North of Seattle on the 880 bus; we'll provide shuttle service from Clinton if you don't want to hassle bus connections at the other end. If you're coming from the North, or if for some reason (vampirism?) you don't want to take the ferry, you'll want to take the scenic route through Deception Pass.
Hotels and B&B's on the island tend to be small, and fill up quickly in tourist season. The con's official hotel is the Silver Cloud Inn on the Mukilteo Waterfront, at 718 Front Street, Mukilteo, WA 98275. It's an easy walk from the ferry terminal if you don't want to drive. We don't have a room block reserved, but they know we're coming.
Call 425.423.8600 sometime in April for reservations, and mention the con.
